The first session will include a discussion on basics to consider when laying out your design or improving your landscape. Specific topics to be covered are: hardscape, softscape, hydrology, microclimates and tips on visualizing your design. How to create private, public and service areas, resolving problem areas in Pennsylvania landscapes and working with natural landscapes will also be covered. The second night Roberta will discuss plant selection and designing mixed plantings, how to select combinations of shrubs, perennials, grasses, bulbs, and groundcovers which give visual interest throughout the year.
Much of the material that will be covered the second night will be from a class entitled, Designing Extraordinary Mixed Planting by Scott C. Scarfone, ASLA. Scott is a registered landscape architect and certified professional horticulturist. Roberta will be attending this class at Longwood Gardens to improve her design knowledge and bring some of Scott's knowledge back to Wayne County.
You may attend one or both nights and can pre-register for the class by contacting the Penn State Extension office at 570-253-5970 x 4110. A fee of $3 will be collected at the door each night.
